China Church News 2/11/03

Dear Friend in Christ, We thank you for your faithful service to God. We like to provide you a weekly summary of news and prayer request pertinent to churches in China. You will find this accurate, reliable and unbiased report very helpful for your ministry.

Tuesday Sister Liu Hsia, a national policy adviser to the president of Taiwan passed away last Friday. At the age of 12, Liu contracted rheumatoid arthritis, a chronic disease that confined her to a wheelchair. She did not receive any formal education past elementary school, but continued to study via radio broadcasts. Writing under the pen name "Hsinglintsu," Sister Liu devoted herself to promoting the welfare of the disabled and founded the Eden Social Welfare Foundation. Pray that God comfort her family, especially her mother and continue to use her articles to lead more people to Christ.

Wednesday More Chinese government officials resign their post to join the private sectors. Pray that God gives them clear conscience to do their new jobs such that an "alliance" between elites from the business and government sectors would not lead to a monopoly of power and the undermining of public interests.

Thursday China has sent 580.000 students studying abroad. Pray that God gives opportunities to evangelists in countries to where these students go, to preach the gospel to them, such that they may know God and enter into Godˇ¦s kingdom.

Friday Pray that completion of the first railroad into Tibet by 2005 will accelerate the spread of the gospel in Tibet and not the cultural destruction feared by many Tibetans. There are no Protestant churches legally registered in Tibet. Tibetan Christians suffer tremendous pressure and injustice. Let us pray for their suffering and unfailing faith.

Saturday Oversea Chinese churches encounter a common problem which the younger generation often do not speak Chinese. Churches often have difficulties retaining, reaching them. We pray for the spiritual life of the these young people in church. May the Lord raise among them people to serve Him.

Sunday China survey finds 1 in 6 havenˇ¦t heard of AIDS. Pray that God gives the health educators in China energy, endurance and wisdom to spread the knowledge of AIDS such that the Chinese population knows how to protect themselves.

Monday Kerosene heater started fatal fire in Northeast China. Pray that God comforts the families of those that were deceased and gives wisdom and courage to those who tries to clean up the scene of the accident.
