Honestly, we don’t know that.
All I can tell you is that crucifiction was never a punishment permitted by Judaic law and therefore a Jew could never be offered up for any punishment not permitted by its own laws by another Jew.
Look, it’s a bit like Australia extraditing a person for trial to another country for a crime and punishment that would he would never have been accused of or punished for in Australia. Just like such a situation would never happen here in Australia, no Jewish authority would ever have allowed it then, EXCEPT, perhaps, those Jews who freely co-operated with the Roman government, such as the hellenists who were openly despised by the pharisees and other Jews for the hellenists’ open hatred of anything Jewish.
Interestingly, Josephus makes no mention of of any Jew being handed over by other Jews to the Romans for punishment by crucifiction.
And in any case if such a situation did occur, then according to common law, if a person is murdered, then not only the person who initiated the crime is punished, but those who did the actual deed are too. The situation we have with Christianity is that only the Jews are to be punished, but the Romans who did the actual deed are either ignored or pardoned for their crime. Can you explain that?
This is a recurring theme in history. I come across it time and time again. Perhaps an example might help. In 1982, Phalange Christian soldiers massacred hundreds of Palestinian refugees; men, women and children, in the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps. In the following investigation, Ariel Sharon was found guilty of not realising what he should have, ie; that posting Christian soldiers to look after Palestinian refugees is a bit like posting Sylvester The Cat to look after Tweety Bird. Again, only the Jews got the blame for this – and I mean ALL Jews, not just Ariel Sharon, while the Christians who did the actual killing, as usual got off scot free. I tend to think it was politcally convenient to blame the Jews and ignore the Christian involvment..
