Pray For The World

China Church News 03/04/2003

China's Church News & Prayer

Tuesday Large earthquake struck Xinjiang Autonomous Region, in northeastern China last week. The casualty count has exceeded 268, with thousands badly hurt. The largest Autonomous Region in China has only 40,000 plus believers by official count. Let us pray for the victims, their families, and the fledgling churches there.

Wednesday Two separate homemade bombs explode nearly simultaneously at the two most prominent Beijing universities; the case remained unsolved. This has shattered the once peaceful college scene. Let us pray not only for law and order, but also the desperate need for campus evangelism across the nation.

Thursday National People's Congress of China prepares for leadership changes this week. Preparations for the annual meeting are in full swing this week amid heightened security following the explosion. Pray that God would give the high party officials wisdom to manage the country. And even for them to come to know Jesus and policies which will open more doors for evangelism.

Friday Business dispute between ethnic Tibetans and Chinese Moslems in China's western Qinghai Province flared into large-scale communal violence, hundreds of injuries and massive property damage. Relations between ethnic minorities have been tense for years. Let us remember all the minority ethnic groups, mostly in the western region of China. Several mission agencies have works reaching specifically the minority groups.

Saturday Unmarried couples living together have rapidly increase in number. This has caused many relational problems and challenges to the traditional Chinese family values. Chinese family experts call for legislation to correct this growing problem and to give legal rights for the cohabitants. We pray for divine intervention and the work of several Christian family ministries bringing Biblical values to the Chinese society.

Sunday A large-scale sandstorm hit China's northwest province of Gansu. In Lanzhou, the capital of Gansu, the air was full of dust, forcing people to run for cover. The sandstorm affected people's lives or farming. Lanzhou has over 50 registered worship sites, several with hundreds of believers. Pray for effective discipleship and nurturing of the many young believers.

Monday There are about 7 Chinese churches in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, one of the centers of immigrants to South America. More Chinese are arriving to Central and South Americas. We will pray for the effort in church building and the need for pastors and missionaries to minister to them, mostly merchants and restaurant workers.
