Flash floods in Indonesia allow ministry teams to plant new seeds. Indonesia (MNN)–We begin today on the Indonesian island of Sumatra, where deadly flash floods this week have devastated whole villages. AMG International’s[1] Larry Malone says they have ministry teams in the area who are putting aside their current outreach to help. The floods, he explains, provide an opportunity for greater work. “One of the things that has helped AMG is that anytime there’s a disaster, flood relief, we’re in with immediate supplies to help the people just to live and exist for the time-being and then we seek to reach into their lives by helping provide homes and food.” On his most recent trip to the area, Malone saw a dedication to ministry despite the conditions. “Pray that God will continue to provide for their needs. The economy in Indonesia is devastating. The people are existing on very little. They just need Gods people to uphold them in prayer that they’ll stay faithful to the Lord.” Full Story: http://mnn.gospelcom.net/article/5324

Iraq (MNN) — Meanwhile, a Christian relief and development organization continues to work in Iraq despite violence in the country. , World Visioin[2] workers say attacks targeting aid workers and other humanitarian organizations have increased in many areas. Staff members are continually on high security alert and are prepared to evacuate at a moments notice. Pray for their safety. Full Story: http://mnn.gospelcom.net/article/5326
A Bible translation project in Surinam supports the church. Surinam (MNN)–Surinam is one of the smallest independent countries in South America, bordered by Brazil and Guyana. In this former Dutch colony, the Gospel is available, but the smaller dialects were somewhat neglected. JAARS’[3] Bob Mantell was involved in the Saramaccan (sarah-mock-an) New Testament translation project. “In a lot of the projects, the majority of the people cannot read, or they would not want to read Scripture, because of their religious backgrounds. We were using non-print things like the JESUS Film, and music and radio programming to communicate the Gospel and the translation of the New Testament to the people.” Mantell says their project is a support for the church. “They’ve continued in using the translations that we did, and also the music tapes and scripture on tape, and the JESUS Film in many of the languages there that I was involved in (translating), and the church continues to grow.” JAARS speeds Bible translation by providing quality services for Wycliffe Bible Translators and others. A water project moves forward into a prayer iniative. USA (MNN)–Elsewhere, the spiritual dynamics of an evangelistic water ministry are behind the launch of a new initiative. Living Water International’s[4] Jerry Wiles says because of the areas they work in, spiritual warfare is prevalent. That’s why the ‘Living Water Prayer Network’ began. “We have a two-pronged approach. We want people to pray, but we also want to connect with praying people. We are connecting with prayer ministries and intercessors around the country for focused intercession, for revival and spiritual awakening and the water needs of the world.” It’s a play on words–meeting the physical need for clean water, and the spiritual need for the water of life. Wiles says of the project, “What we’ve found is that when these people are willing to pray for a mission project or a cause, they financially support that cause. Now, whether or not they support the project is between them and the Lord, but we want to see serious intercessors with a focused prayer initiative.” Full Story: http://mnn.gospelcom.net/article/5328
