From a netfriend:
Celibacy is a beautiful gift, given to some and not to others. Handled maturely and prayerfully it is a powerful gift which enables a great deal of energy to be devoted to various forms of ministry. I believe it is a good thing and should be valued by our churches to an extent that is hard to find.
My question is: how you could, on the one hand, extol the virtues of celibacy, and on the other hand criticise another group of people for failing to contribute to fulfilling our mandate to “be fruitful and multiply”.
If the mandate to “be fruitful and multiply” can serve as evidence for the sinfulness of homosexuality, then surely it must also end up pointing the finger at other forms of “not being fruitful and multiplying”.
