Pharmacist Fired For Refusing To Dispense Day After Pill To a Rape Victim

One netfriend:

To a Rape Victim

A Denton pharmacist refused to dispense the "day after" pill to a woman who was raped this week. She had a prescription written by her doctor, and when she took it to her local Eckerd store to have it filled, the pharmacist refused to fill it. He went into the back room and prayed to God, and even called the minister of his church to ask for advice. The advice that came back seemed to be "No, don't do it." So, the woman took her prescription across the street to another pharmacy and got it filled with no problem. The pharmacist was fired from the store he worked in, and he hired a lawyer who is trying to defend the rights of pharmacists from dispensing the day after pill, and apparently any other drugs or pills that they think are immoral or go against their religious beliefs. I can't imagine such a case making it to court. Can anyone actually see it getting that far?

Mark's response:

Many years ago I was the President of a Right To Life Chapter. (A Protestant amongst many Catholics).

The morning after pill prevents implantation and I do not see a problem with it. There are many fertilised ova which do not implant. Why add more injury to the rape victim by denying medication to prevent implantation? The pharmacist showed no compassion for the victim. Again, I would have fired the pharmacist also. The pharmacists job is to safely dispense medication prescribed by the doctor ...not to refuse the doctor's prescription.

What would happen if an atheist pharmacist refused to dispense olive oil because it was used by Jesus and his followers to anoint people for healing and was against his / her non-religious belief?

Unfortunately fundamentalist Christians think they run the world. It is time for atheists and other Christians to tell them that they don't!

The type of actions by the pharmacist add to the dumbing down of Christianity.
