Apologetics & Social Issues

Belief in God

One of my first posts to a Usenet newsgroup (23/12/1994):

A few bits and pieces from a God-believer.

First, let me say I appreciate the honesty/integrity of you all in this newsgroup. I've been reading it with interest for some time. (I felt the same way about those who sat down during Handel's Messiah's 'Hallelujah Chorus' the other night at the Melbourne Concert Hall. They were less hypocritical than some who stood because everyone else did!)

Why do I believe in God? The traditional Christian arguments (first cause, design, universal morality, etc.) have all been satisfactorily refuted, I think. I have two reasons only, somewhat objective, and somewhat subjective: (1) Jesus Christ (I can't explain him any other way, than that the God he talked about was real); (2) My own experience (I can't explain some things other than that God is real in my life).

The JC apologetic is the better one.

One more thought for you all at Christmas (it drives my little counseling practice): 'It's *never* too late to have a happy childhood!' (I'm serious!)

Happy Christmas from Down Under!
