alt.christnet.christianlife - a bit of history

Hi acc friends,

I've been reading some of the early posts in alt.christnet.christianlife, and connected with some interesting people (again) and a few memories (violin starts playing sentimental stuff...).

Near the beginning of the group's history (and among the first of Google's listed 413,000 acc posts) one Barry O'Grady posted an article (28th December 1993) on 'Praying'.

Interesting, for three reasons:

1. Barry actually wrote a well-thought-out article (28th December 1993) on a religious question instead of simply offering negative repartees to others' posts :-)

2. The article's thesis: Seeing more prayers were answered in the Bible than is happening today, perhaps Christians are doing too much praying!

3. Barry may be the longest-serving poster on alt.christnet.christianlife. He's still around, of course (about 1820 posts; most recent: 20th February 2004!).

~~~
I've only posted, or been mentioned in, 1180 posts on acc, from 1997 to today.
Some of my own early contributions included:
2nd March 1995:
Two questions from last week's seminars and counseling:
[1] (From a girl about 16 whose parents have split up): Is it OK to love yourself? How do you get to do that?
[2] (A more technical question on the same topic): 'Does the command to love God, and love others as you love yourself imply that you are *commanded* to love yourself? Or is that last clause an *assumption* rather than a command?' In other words are then 1, 2, or 3 commands in the 'Great commandment?'
Then on 28th March 1995: A Chapter for Christian Singles
And on the same day a post on Realistic vs. Romantic Love -
On 28th February 1996, an article on Stress and Burnout
On 6th April 1997:
I'm sometimes accused of being anti-Catholic (by sensitive Catholics) which ain't true, folks. Despite the critical articles about some aspects of Catholicism on my homepage, I've had four Catholic Spiritual Directors, and would choose a 'preached retreat' at a Catholic centre anytime for my annual retreat.
And my favorite author (here's a Baptist speaking... Ready?) is Richard Rohr, whom I reckon is the English-speaking world's #1 prophet. And guess what, he's (still) a Catholic Franciscan!
Another early one (also 6th April 1997): a book review about Christian Marriage -
A quick scan of the first several hundred posts on acc didn't turn up anyone else I know (except the group's founder, Max Borisoff. Where's Max these days? Anyone know?).
Have I missed anybody?
How long have you current acc regulars been around?
Shalom!
