ACC Guidelines

Welcome to ACC (alt.christnet.christianlife)

If you are an experienced Usenet surfer, please skip to "Advanced."

New Visitors: If you are also new to Usenet or Alt.News.Groups, you may want to consider the idea of "net etiquette." This is not a requirement, but may be beneficial to you in your Usenet experience. You can get some pointers and suggestions at:

http://allmyfaqs.com/faq.pl?How_to_post http://www.cs.tut.fi/~jkorpela/usenet/brox.html http://www.caliburn.nl/topposting.html http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/gey_stv0.htm http://www.the-eggman.com/writings/etiquitte_1.html

If you are new to this group: Be aware that many of the people posting in this group are kind, friendly and generous... Sadly, some may not be. Most of us are just human.

You may want to read several of the posts before you add your comment to any post, this practice is called "lurking," and is a really good idea.

Be advised that some of the posts, or threads, may be quicksand, and filled with angry discussion, bickering or name calling. Not much different from real life, right? This is to be expected in an open forum, which is much like the 'town square' where anyone can set up an

apple box and begin to lecture or berate the general public.

What you may want to do, is read and study some of the posts where the Subject interests you. Take note of the NIC (name, I am 'oldwetdog') of the poster, and make a note of some of the words and comments. Once you have done this, go to google.com then to 'groups' then to advanced group search. Once there, enter the words of the discussion, and the name of

the poster, and the name of the alt group. (This is alt.christnet.christianlife.)

By doing this for a little while, and taking notes, you will learn the character, style, attitude and position of some of the regular posters, and, then, you should not be surprised by posting into a battlefield. Of course, if a good fight over the interpretation of Scripture, or definition of terms, excites you, feel free to leap right in...

Please know that you do not need to continue a discussion which alarms, upsets or harms you. If you post into any ongoing discussion, and someone replies to you in anything less than Christian kindness, you should feel free to drop out of that discussion. You do not "need" to reply. (Although you may certainly continue to read it.) Your reply to a hostile comment is not required.

Advanced: open to the general public. Everyone is expected to conduct themselves

with some modicum of civility and human decency. However, there are no

"net police" to edit your posts. You are, then, expected to exhibit some maturity in your post.

For everyone: If you are human and can type, you are welcome. Well, now that I think about it, non-humans are welcome too; and typing is not necessary either, since you may use one of the new 'voice to text' programs.

There are no "CC Guidelines" and no requirements as to Church affiliation, religious preference, doctrine or dogma. There are SDA, Charismatics, Liberals, Conservatives, Catholics and Protestants of every stripe and loyalty (or none) calling this NG home. If I have omitted anyone, I do apologize.

The name of the NG suggests that any subject you consider important to "Christian Life" is appropriate, and this is correct. It would seem beneficial if you could contribute something to a discussion in the way of Truth, Scripture or experience which is 'uplifting' or 'encouraging' to the Christian Life. On the other hand, if you feel the need to discuss a problem, your post is welcome. You may find it a good idea to post, then retreat. By that I mean that you may start a subject and then sit back and see where it goes. The resulting discussion may or may not be instructive to you, and others.

Please note that all the people you will meet on this NG about what you would expect in any public place. Some are tall, some are short, some are old, some are young, some are rich and some are poor. When you are

here a while you may learn (if you didn't already know) that it is the

Spirit that matters.

Some posters may Ask legitimate questions, May be here defending the gospel, Ask questions just so they can argue, Want to look smart by making you look ignorant, Are here simply to attack anything gospel related, Are subtitle, and seek to lead you into their cesspool, Are too ignorant to understand the dangers, and need mercy, Are new-bees, have fragile wings, and need to be home before dark.

There is only one rule I would have you be aware of: there are no rules on an unmoderated open, public forum. On the other hand, you may want to abide by State and Federal Laws for the use of Electronic Media like the Internet and Usenet. If you are a Christian you will want to abide by His Law, and otherwise there are the usual rules of polite human conduct.

I am not "The Leader" of this News Group: There is no leader or moderator. I just thought it would be a good idea to welcome you to a News Group which I believe is a good place to share our Christian experience.

I hope you enjoy your visit enough to become a regular contributer.
