Jesus is coming into town

I am sharing with you a hymn which I wrote two years ago.

The tune of choice for this hymn is Duke "Street" which can be found in almost any hymnal. Or you can use any other Long Metre (88 88) tune.

Permission to use the hymn in worship is given to people and groups on this list. I would, of course, appreciate any feedback you may have. Peter

A hymn for Palm Sunday

Jesus is coming into town,

coming to make the world his own.

Look for the donkey coming in

carrying Christ to be our King.

Look, here he comes, throw down your gown

so that it covers all the ground.

Shout with the crowd and sing again

songs of "Hosanna", "Praise", "Amen"

Sing your "hosanna" to welcome him here;

He speaks the Word of God so clear;

He heals the sick, the lame and blind;

In Jesus, we our hope can find.

They say he's come to bring us peace

and God knows how we need release

from all the horrors and the crime:

Let Jesus' peace come in our time.

O no! there's something going wrong

something has stopped the joyful song.

Where are the people who sang strong?

Now they accuse the Christ of wrong

Jesus was coming into town,

coming to make the world his own.

Powerful people saw their loss

and then they forced him to a cross

From Crown to Cross, from live to die,

from "Hosanna" to "Crucify"

from a betrayal by a friend

we see him faithful to the end.
