NATIONAL ALLIANCE of CHRISTIAN LEADERS NACL http://www.nacl.com.au PRESS RELEASE March 14, 2003 UN Inaction - The Main Problem. It is argued that the United Nations is central to preserving global peace and harmony, and preventing the world from returning to the law of the jungle, or nations sliding into further global conflict. This notion has always been a grand delusion, and has no basis in reality. In reality, the United Nations has repeatedly shown itself to be incapable of "uniting nations", either towards a common cause, or against a present or future foe, be it rogue state or terrorism. What we have is a "Disunited Nations" that is incapable of defending even the smallest state. The UN totally failed in Kosovo, and was impotent beyond belief in Rwanda. In East Timor, the UN would have left citizens to be slaughtered by the militia had it not been for the bravery and resolve of UN staff, who for humanity reasons, refused to follow the UN direction to leave. And so it goes! In other words, it is already "the law of the jungle" out there, because the UN is rightly seen to be an indecisive and impotent force, that cannot be trusted to accomplish even the most fundamental task, let alone be trusted with the responsibility of global peace and security. The United Nations is so impotent it is repeatedly incapable of even enforcing its own 'mandates' and 'resolutions', in spite of repeated and longstanding violations. The UN handling of the Iraq affair is yet another example of the UN's impotence and disarray in the face of pressure and adversity. It's lack of focus and resolve has become the principle problem, and not the much-desired solution. Iraq, like other rogue nations and states, repeatedly and blatantly disregards and flouts its rulings, making unilateral action by forces beyond and apart from the UN the only viable option. The US and others have had to fill that vacuum. It should be the UN, and not the US, that is actively lobbying members to ensure that its own longstanding resolutions are immediately complied with. It should be the UN, and not the US, that seeks to protect the world from future horrendous consequences by states and nations servicing the needs of rogue dictators and terrorists. It should be the UN, and not the US, that brings pressure on member nations to support the cause of disarming rogue nations with weapons of mass destruction. It should be the UN, and not the US, which keeps heavy pressure on Iraq, North Korea and other mandate violators to comply with long standing resolutions. It is the UN, and not Great Britain or the US, that should set out specific targets that Iraq must meet to disarm, and not repeatedly accept and support repeated excuses for non-compliance. The UN, and not the US, should have united nations in the interest of shared security and common wellbeing, and not left the US to shoulder the military and economic burden, or need to pay billions in financial inducement to countries for their token support. In truth, the UN was doomed to failure. It is composed of widely diverse and differing cultures, each seeking their own conflicting interests and agenda, many with financial ties to rogue states. Rather than having a shared united global agenda, self interest has proved to be the driving force of UN delegations and decisions, with France always acting as the spoiler to the common cause. And the supplier of Chemical Plants and Technology with Iraq weapons production capability. For this reason the US and other nations such as Great Britain, Turkey, Spain, Italy, and Australia know that the UN is transfixed in inaction and disunity, and is incapable of fulfilling its current role of disarming Iraq and securing global peace and security. Time is not the problem, but the enduring impotence of the UN itself. In view of the inactivity of the UN, the only alternative seems to be an independent international alliance of nations and states that do have a united resolve and agenda to actively and directly confront common threats and terrorism. The truth is that the UN - along with the Neville Chamberlains of the world engaged in appeasement marches - want "peace in our time" at any price, putting the world at greater risk and future danger from far more terrifying and horrendous consequences, as Hitler well demonstrated in his own time. It is history repeating itself, because the UN has totally failed in its appointed task and responsibilities, for which the world will pay a massive cost. If the UN is to keep its global relevance it must act now, with decisiveness and resolve, or, like the League of Nations, it too will be assigned to the dustbin of history.
