Free anti-virus Grisoft AVG Free Edition, which has received the VB 100% award from The Virus Bulletin for the last three years: http://free.grisoft.com

Free firewall. Simple to set up, simple to use. ZoneAlarm available at http://www.zonelabs.com

Removing spyware and mal-ware from your computer: Spybot Search and Destroy http://www.safer-networking.org (I use Ad-Aware, available at http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/)

There is a good Australian program which filters spam called SpamBayes 1.04. It’s best used as an Outlook plug-in, but can be used with all email clients. http://spambayes.sourceforge.net)

As a little added extra, if you are after a good program to keep track of your digital photos, Google offers Picasa. It is a very good basic program, which also allows you to do some basic editing (http://www.picasa.com/)
