A church in Adelaide begins each 9.30 service with an acknowledgement that it is on the land of Kaurna people.
At the Christmas Eve Service 2005, they said,
We acknowledge the Kuarna people
the first inhabitants of this place.
We honour them for their custodianship
of the land on which we gather tonight.
Note from a netfriend:
Where there is some dispute over ownership of land, can not it be said, “We acknowledge that the indigenous peoples of this place were the first inhabitants …”
You are then not buying in the land disputes that are not of our making.
