From a netfriend:
The entire business system is built on greed where people are as expendable as kleenex.
People matter, not profits!
People need to feel that they are an asset to the business and that their employer appreciates and rewards them for their effort.
I work with my son in his small IT company. We have 17 staff and they get 30% of any profits shared amongst them, half of that equally, the other half by tenure (limit of five years on the tenure). Our average monthly profit (after this distribution) last year was $25K per month. When our profit goes over $40K in any one month, we give the staff 60% of that profit.
They are happy to come to work, they actively look for ways to help each other get the work done. We all get along with each other well and we all make more money.
