Alcohol Advertising - Nile's successful Motion at Alcohol Summit

The Rev Fred Nile MLC has successfully moved the only Motion that was adopted by the Alcohol Summit that dealt directly with the controversial issues of the regulation of alcohol advertising.

"I was very pleased that the Alcohol Summit adopted my amended Motion which dealt with alcohol advertising", said Rev Fred Nile MLC.

"The amended Motion [1.8] that was adopted stated:

'The NSW Government should work collaboratively with industry to explore ways of incorporating socially responsible messages into advertising sponsorship and promotion and the NSW Government will form an Alcohol Task Force to closely monitor the operation of the self regulatory Alcohol Advertising Code and reserves its right to make recommendations concerning a mandatory Advertising Code and/or a restriction and/or a ban on alcohol advertising'. I was also pleased to have another of my Motions adopted relating to the problem of under age alcohol consumption and binge drinking as follows:

[8.22] 'The NSW Government review the alcohol laws concerning minors in relation to penalties for purchasing, possession and consumption of alcohol so as to protect minors from the influence of alcohol and binge drinking'. In addition I was pleased to be able to make a speech calling for a ban on alcohol advertising" said Rev Fred Nile MLC, Leader of the Christian Democratic Party.

A copy of that speech can be viewed on pages 19-20 of the Hansard proceedings 28/8/03.
