Note from Rowland: I've just finished reading Michael Spyker's book: a very readable introduction to Christian Spiritual Disciplines. Anyone who's read, and commends, people such as Merton, Vanier, John of the Cross, the Desert Fathers and Mothers, Paul Tournier, John Main, etc. and who likes Norah Jones music has got 'something going' for them. A good book to give to young people.

Meeting Emma is a book about spirituality that readers have commented on very favourably. It makes the history of Christian spirituality accessible in a pleasant way using narrative as well as author's comments to each chapter.
Outline
When Emma, a curious student, meets Joe, a middle-aged lecturer teaching spirituality at a nearby college, the conversations that follow outline a journey of discovery in faith, as Emma comes to grips with family problems, her art and her relationship with God.
A remarkably honest look at issues that confront us all, this will be uniquely helpful to anyone who wants to explore spirituality, those who are curious about Christianity and those wanting to explore a range of topical issues, such as meditation, self-worth and identity.
Usability
Meeting Emma takes one from simple, practical introductory concepts to an exploration of some of the great profundities of the Christian faith. It is suitable for private reflection as well as group discussion. The author's comments include reflection/discussion questions.
