I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory about to be revealed in us. Romans 8:18.

We conclude this short series on the problem of pain with a statement of C.S.Lewis’ which is one of the most magnificent – and horrifying – in the English language:

ALL YOUR LIFE AN UNATTAINABLE ECSTASY HAS HOVERED JUST BEYOND THE GRASP OF YOUR CONSCIOUSNESS. THE DAY IS COMING WHEN YOU WILL WAKE TO FIND, BEYOND ALL HOPE, THAT YOU HAVE ATTAINED IT, OR ELSE, THAT IT WAS WITHIN YOUR REACH AND YOU HAVE LOST IT FOREVER.

Why not memorize and think about that?

May the God of all consolation bless you in every way and grant you peace all the days of your life. May he free you from all anxiety and strengthen your heart in love. May he enrich you with his gifts of faith, hope, and love, and bring you to the happiness of everlasting life. May almighty God bless you, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen……
