Prayer at the End of the Day

In some small way, focus your attention on God: listen to a special piece of music; sing a refrain of a song; go to a favourite prayer place; remember a Scripture verse: 'The Lord is my shepherd' or 'Find rest, O my soul, in God alone' (Ps 62:5). Light a candle; look at something beautiful. Be comfortable and take a few deep breaths to bring greater restfulness. Hear God say to you, 'You are my much loved child, I am pleased with you' (Luke 3:22).

Gladly come to your Father and Saviour, remembering God is present in your inner being (Eph 3:16) through the Holy Spirit. Look back over your day, and all it held - study, work, relationships, responsibilities, relaxation - and ask God to bring to your heart the moment today for which you are most grateful.

If you could relive one moment, which would it be?

When were you most able to give and receive love today?

Ask yourself what was said and done in that moment that made it special for you. Offer this gratefulness to God and receive his life again.

Ask God to bring to your heart the moment today for which you feel least grateful. When were you least able to give and receive love?

Ask yourself what was said and done that made that moment so difficult. Be with whatever you feel without trying to change or fix it. Offer this experience to God and let God's love fill you just as you are.

Remember God's promise: "I am always with you". (28:20b), as you end this day in sleep and enter a new day.
