[1]: I am new to this group, but as far as I can see I am sad to say, the non christian groups I belong too are a lot nicer to each other than you people are. Maybe I am looking in the wrong place. I am not trying to start anything and I certainly don't want anyone to chew me out for anything, but can't we be a little nicer and show some of that godly love to one another. [2] *waves* I've seen you somewhere before, I think - a cooking group, or a fashion group, maybe? Yes, ACC is argumentative, but then so are all the other christian ngs that I read. Probably having 38,000 denominations has something to do with that ;) ~~~ My response David Barrett's figure is probably over 40,000 now. Many researchers question the methodology used by Barrett to define a 'denomination'. Is an extended family running a storefront church in downtown LA as much a 'Christian denomination' as the largest - the Roman Catholic Church...? My contention would be that Christians arguing with each other on these newsgroups has its aetiology in other factors: 1. Many here have excess time on their hands. Some here have unresolved life-issues which may cause them to be aggressive towards different-others. Now, class, 'Why?' and 'Why?' 2. My study for a Masters' degree in social psychology opened my eyes to the sociological fact that adherents of *every* 'ideology' - political, religious, whatever - range across a fundamentalist-to-liberal / right-left... whatever... spectrum... The Muslims have Al Qaeda at one end and liberal Sufis at the other. The Catholics I meet range across a similar spectrum (the Vatican has managed to keep 'em all nominally under one banner, so far; the Anglicans are about to surrender their irenic 'via media' approach on the homosexuality issue and probably split into at least two groups..) etc. 3. Essentially, ideologically (which is what we're talking about here, not Christian groups-with-names) there are probably only about 13 varieties of Christians. As there are Hindus, Buddhists, Marxists etc. (See http://jmm.aaa.net.au/articles/9664.htm ) -- Shalom!
