Saw this in an old Expository Times (1960s) magazine article: There was one kind of march we haven't seen for a generation. We hope we never see it again in this country (U.K.). But it isn't all that many years since long lines of ragged men with pinched faces and crumbling shoes, set off on the long journey to London to confront those in the seats of power with the plight of the unemployed. History tells us that on the way they were helped by well-meaning people with hot soup and bread. Clothes and other necessities were sent to their families. But such well-meaning people must have been puzzled - and even hurt - by one slogan on their banners, a slogan which has run through history: 'DAMN YOUR CHARITY - WE WANT JUSTICE!'
