Disabled?

Peter:

“Many years ago, I interviewed a woman as part of a report on a book launch. She was a trained school teacher, who had lived in a L’arche community in England for a time.

One day two of the men in the community, who had severe intellectual disabilities, took her aside to tell her how worried they were about her. “You are much smarter than we are,” they told her, “but you don’t know how to tell people how you feel. We are very worried, because it must make your life so hard.”

She said, “Until that point, I quietly thought of them as disabled, and myself as “normal”. For the first time, I realised that I was disabled, too.”
