I’ve just posted this as a Facebook thought (it was brought to memory by a quote in Geoff Pound’s Discernment devotions, Making Life Decisions).
In my opinion, John Claypool is/was (he died a year or two ago) the best preaching writer or writing preacher in the English language in the 20th century. (His verbal delivery in his preaching, however, was a bit slow and languid…)
This quote is worth thinking/praying about:

John Claypool (The Light Within You) asks ‘Who is your audience?’ (Elsewhere: ‘Who gives you your grade?’). As a preacher/writer some negative feedback didn’t bother him – those people didn’t matter to him. But others’ approval warmed him, and their disapproval cut him to the quick. Each of us has our select audience before whom we play out our lives.
So…???????
