Dorothy L.ayers, August 1940, in a letter to Donald Mackinnon: “The Church is uncommonly vocal about the subject of bedrooms and so singularly silent on the subject of board-rooms.”
I think I got this from the biography written by Barbara Reynolds.
She got involved with a BBC committee about religious broadcasting. After one meeting she wrote to a friend “It sent me out in the frame of mind for a stiff gin-and-tonic with my pagan friends.”
