Fundamentalists and Evangelicals

From a netfriend:

According to George Marsden in "Understanding Fundamentalism And Evangelicalism" (Eerdmans:1991) - "A fundamentalist is an evangelical who is angry about something .... fundamentalists are a subtype of evangelical and militancy is crucial in their outlook." p.1

Evangelicals / fundamentalists are EXACTLY like the Taliban for they share the same obnoxious characteristics:

- blind obedience to a man-made book

- engaged in a war against modernity

- interest in banning art works

- interest in controlling other people's sex lives

- interest in political power to force civilisation back to the Dark Ages

- impervious to rational argument

One should read Karen Armstrong "The Battle For God: Fundamentalism in Judaism, Christianity and Islam" (HarperPerennial:2004)
