A public Facebook contribution from a wise person:
“I am a therapist and deal with victims of severe abuse all the time… they need a sacred space of acceptance and love to experience real healing. It takes some work to understand their inner worlds – but it doesn’t mean you have to be a professional to do that! Someone who has already crossed over into perpetrating abuse against others needs a village as well as counseling. We had a man who had been convicted of a sex crime against a child (they carry that label for life here in the US). The reality is that pedophiles do not change much, sadly. We did not allow him to work in the children’s Sunday school or to be alone with any child, which made him mad at first because he thought we refused to trust him (we must use common sense), but we did include him in everything else where both adults and kids were present and we had him into our homes for meals, etc. Kids were kept safe and this man was loved. He eventually understood and accepted our caution.”
