Two thoughts about sacred hymns/songs from a Facebook friend:
1 There are good and bad hymns, good and bad modern songs, and some excellent modern hymns too. It’s not the form, musically or lyrically, but the content that counts. I’ve been touched by some of the older hymns but I remember a youth alive meeting where “Jesus Lover of my soul” (the new words and music) sung passionately and very loud brought me into God’s presence powerfully; probably a result of my heart cry too
2 I’d like to see a church that uses a range of music from all streams, all nations, all centuries, giving us the sense that the church is bigger than just our stream”
