Sexual Abuse and Homophobia

Re: ‘Bligh blast at redneck bigotry’, Courier Mail, 12/2/10

Queensland’s political establishment continues to be unwilling to confront the sexual abuse of children – presumably because so many voters are involved.

Your article suggested that opponents of same sex surrogacy were described by Queensland’s premier as ‘rednecks’ who ‘embarrass Queensland with their wacky views’. The Opposition accused supporters of the extension of surrogacy rights to same sex couples as ‘social engineers’, and were in turn branded ‘homophobes’.

However all this name calling is homostupidity – as it glosses over the apparent link between homosexual behaviour and child abuse (see Public <http://cpds.apana.org.au/Teams/Articles/values_in_schools.htm#Homosexuality Acceptance of Homosexual Behaviour, which refers to credible observers’ suggestions that: (a) homosexual behaviour is often a result of child neglect / abuse; and (b) public acceptance of homosexual behaviour makes children more vulnerable to sexual abuse (and more likely to grow up as sexual abusers of the next generation of children).

The failure of Queensland’s political establishment to consider the very real possibility that homosexual behaviour is often an emotional addictive affliction (which could perhaps be compared with anorexia nervosa) needs to be considered in the light of the fact that: (a) sexual abuse appears to affect huge numbers of children (25% of girls and 12% of boys were claimed by one group, an estimate that was suggested privately to be conservative by a former New Zealand police officer involved in investigating such crimes); (b) the main problem seems to arise as a result of the breakdown of biological families so that children live with adults to whom they are not biologically related; and (c) the public acceptance of homosexual behaviour arguably makes children more vulnerable to sexual abuse (see About Child <http://cpds.apana.org.au/Teams/Articles/child_abuse.htm> Sexual Abuse).

The latter document concerned the frenzy that Queensland’s political establishment went into in relation to the Anglican Church’s poor management of a few cases of sexual abuse of children in its institutions – and its obvious unwillingness to highlight the failure of churches generally to address the massively greater problem that appears to exist in the community / electorate generally. The recent bout of homostupidity (ie name calling of opponents in relation to extending surrogacy laws to same sex couples, which simply glosses over the social causes and consequences of homosexual behaviour) merely continues Queensland’s disgraceful tradition.
