BIBLE CLASS: Were people in Jesus’ parables *real*? Yes. *Historical*? Not necessarily. Jonah, Job, Noah…: ditto. Hang on… those three had names/places! Ditto Lazarus, Jericho Road. The key hermeneutical question isn’t ‘Did it happen historically?’ but ‘Is it true?’ (Marcus Borg). Ditto the proton/eschaton: not ‘how?/when?’ but ‘Who/why?’ Think about it…
