The potential of digital media for evangelism and discipleship outside the West is growing dramatically. Mobile phones users now total well over 3 billion, while 2 billion access the Web regularly. The bulk of these are in the Majority World.
There are 500 million users of Facebook in nearly 100 languages. Many in Africa and Asia can now read and update their Facebook pages without charge, using a mobile phone. The strategic mission gathering Lausanne 2010 (October in Capetown) will include a focus on these digital opportunities.
So we’ve produced an Open Letter to Mission Agencies, to highlight the growing range of opportunities:

I’ve added a ready-to-use short news release at the end of this page, hoping that you may have an opportunity to share this in different ways.
If you wish to link to the Open Letter online, please use the full URL above. However, for publication in print (or verbal/Twitter recommendation), you may wish to use the shortcut: IEDay.net/mission
Any of our pages, newsletter items, or blog posts can be freely used or adapted for print and online media. It is also possible to syndicate the headlines of our blog directly into any other webpage, just by copy/pasting a short piece of code into your web-page:

Open Letter to Missions Reveals New Gospel Opportunities
In August, the 5-billionth digital device was connected to the Internet! Digital media are changing our world for ever. The majority of mobile phone and computer users live outside the West. This offers a growing range of opportunities for online outreach and discipleship. Internet Evangelism Day, advocate ministry for digital outreach, has produced an Open Letter to Missions to highlight this dramatic potential around the world:
