Have you ever sung the chorus "Heaven Is In My Heart" made popular by world
famaous worship leader Bob Fitts? If you ave, you may have asked what it means to have
"heaven in my heart"?
When using such a phrase a Christian has in mind something very wonderful – the
enjoyment of Christ in his life here and now. Heaven needs to be in the Christian before
the Christian can be in heaven after death. It was said of an old Puritan saint, ‘Heaven
was in him before he was in heaven.’
Commenting on this, Charles Spurgeon said, ‘That is necessary for all of us; we must
have heaven in us before we get to heaven.’ And he warned, ‘If we do not get to heaven
before we die, we shall never get there afterwards.’ He then went on to relate the story
of an old Scotsman who was asked whether he expected to go to heaven. His firm reply was:
‘Man, I live there.’ The Christian lives in heaven on earth. Where are you living on
earth?
