REJOICE IN THE LORD!
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” – Philippians 4:4
Adam Clarke was born in 1760 in Northern Ireland. He was the son of a Church of Ireland minister and came to Christ through a Methodist preacher in 1778. He began preaching in 1782 as a circuit preacher and preached more than 450 sermons in 11 months. He would sometimes travel a circuit of nine or ten hamlets on a single Sunday to preach.
Following John Wesley’s death, he became the leader of the Wesleyan movement. A loveable character, Clarke was also one of the greatest scholars of his age despite his lack of a university education. He was fluent in at least twenty languages and his eight volume “Commentary on the Bible” is still popular and in print today. Clarke worked forty-five years without assistance producing the commentary.
Looking back at his life while in his seventies, Clark declared: “I have passed through the springtime of my life. I have withstood the heat of summer. I have culled the fruits of the fall. I am even now enduring the rigors of its winter, But at no great distance I see the approach of a new eternal springtime. Hallelujah!”
Are you rejoicing in the Lord? Today in prayer, give your cares, concerns and worries to Christ and rejoice for we have a great God!
“If you have no joy in your religion, there’s a leak in your Christianity somewhere.” – Billy Sunday
God’s Word: “yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior.” – Habakkuk 3:18
