About Heaven (Luke20:27-40)

Dr. W. A. Criswell, a well-known Baptist minister was once asked, “Will we know each other when we get to heaven?” His answer, “We won’t really know each other UNTIL we get to heaven.”

Christians have a something wonderful to look forward to after death: eternal life with God. In the next life we will be completed as God has intended. In God’s eternal dimension we will know and love God, ourselves and others, as God already knows and loves. What incredibly good news this is, that there will come a time when we will be totally fulfilled and liberated from all broken-ness, sin and the limitations of our humanity. Jesus gives us a picture of this when he answers the trick question of the Sadducees (Luke 20:27-40). Jesus says that in the age to come, we will no longer die and we will be equal to angels and we will be part of the everlasting, resurrected family of God. The other great news is that this future dimension of God is already available to us in the here and now; even while we still experience the limitations of being human in a finite world. God’s infinite dimension broke into this world through the Death and Resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth.
