“Some Fatherly Advice about Adultery” – Dr. Walt Russell
Proverbs 5
Intro: God’s Fatherly advice is bolder than the advice of our earthly families.
1. The wise person is very aware of the delicious lure of adultery. Prov. 5:1-6 a. The wise person should learn before they live through an adulterous relationship. (5:1-3)
b. Wisdom about adultery demands that you consider her bitter end: death! (5:4-6)
2. More specifically, the price of adultery is very costly to you and your family. Prov. 5:7-14 a. Be wise and physically stay away from those who tempt you to an adulterous relationship. (5:7-8)
b. The results of an adulterous relationship will be giving your strength and wealth to strangers. (5:9-11)
c. The regrets of an adulterous relationship will be your ignorance and shame before the whole assembly. (5:12-14)
3. The better way is to have a rich sexuality in your marriage. Prov. 5:15-20)
a. Marital sex if full of overflowing blessing, not isolationism. (5:15-17)
b. Marital sex is a choice to be passionate with your mate and to be exhilarated with your lifelong marriage partner. (5:18-20)
4. God’s recompense and sin’s own judgment should motivate the wise person to avoid the adulterous relationship. Prov. 5:21-23
The message of Proverb 5: The superiority of marital love over adulterous lust is evidenced in your family, … finances, … honor, … life’s conclusion, and divine reward.
