"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory [standard] of God" (Romans 3:23, NIV). I don't know if you are familiar with lawn bowls. The outdoor playing field is generally played on a flat lawn, about 40-42 yards (37-38m) square and surrounded by a shallow ditch and grass banks beyond. It is a game in which a ball (known as a bowl) is rolled toward a smaller stationary ball, called a jack. The object is to roll one's bowl so that it comes to rest nearer to the jack than those of an opponent. The ball, or bowl, is flattened on both sides and has a bias, or weight, on one side which causes it to curve when bowled and veer away from the jack (target ball). That's kind of like human nature. Every one of us has a bias -- that is, a bias to veer away from the target and goal that God planned for us. We are all born with this bias. It's what the theologians call the sin nature. It is a deadly spiritual bias that, if not faced and dealt with, will take us farther away from God and lead us to eternal separation from him. We were thus born to lose. However, because Jesus Christ died to save us from our sin bias, to win we need to be born again! That is, we need to be born spiritually. We do that by acknowledge our sinfulness and by accepting Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior. It's very simple. Click on the link at [2] to see how to do this.
