Miracles And Atheism

I was in a discussion for several hours tonight with an agnostic friend as to whether or not it is possible that there exists something outside of physical nature could possibly exist, i.e. a supernatural.

The specific question raised was:

If all physical processes in a certain situation could be taken into account, and yet a certain event did not procede from the laws of physics as predetermined, would this be physical proof of the existence of the supernatural?

The example used was:

Posit someone had the ability to suspend the laws of physics and cause solid objects to float in midair, would this prove that there existed something outside the physical universe?

The person among us who claims to be an agnostic stated that if he observed this event, he would insist there must be a physical explanation.

Is this a logically valid tautology or is it irrational?

I understand strong Atheism to be the belief that the statement "There is no God" is a true one. Do strong Atheists also believe the statement "There is no supernatural" to also be a true one? It seems to me more appropriate to label those who believe the second statement as Naturalists rather than strong Atheists.

In any case, how should a strong Atheist answer that question?
