Reminds me of a story that Gore Vidal related in his novel “Creation” (interesating read if you can wade through it).
The Grandson of Zoroaster, the prophet of the One Wise Lord Ahura Mazdah, told some Hindu Priests that they should belive in Ahura Mazdah. They replied that they did.
When told that Ahura Mazdah was the one true god, and that all others were demons the priests replied “We have room for thousands of One True Gods in our pantheon.”
