Have you read the sequel - "Recovering from Churches That Abuse." This was a significant book for me and helped me deal with a number of issues in regard to my previous experience. It's worth noting that Enroth does not share the absolutist/generalist view of the dark state of Christianity that you speak of. He also recognises that same churches can and do change from an abusive past (although not many make that step he admits). Its a good book - it recognises the reality of hurt, the causes of hurt, and the shame of it happening by Christians - but his book is also full of hope and recognition of God's grace in healing. I highly recommend it.
