Actually, it's not missing, it's just got nothing to do with Nigel's
point.

This has absolutely nothing to do with Christianity, sin and so on.
This is about a point of law.  To draw an analogy, I believe that the
law should codify a right to freedom of speech, including speech that
God would not approve of.

I'm with Nigel on this one.  The law should recognise homosexual
couples just the same as heterosexual de facto couples, for tax and
superannuation purposes.  The law should also recognise formal unions
of homosexual couples.

This is completely different to the question of whether or not the
church should.

...and, no doubt, greedy people, and hate-filled people and atheists
and Muslims...

What does the Bible have to say about governing authorities?  If your
government decided to recognise homosexual relationships for tax and/or
superannuation purposes, would you submit?  After all, it's hardly
preventing you from practising Christianity...

Why should the government play by Christian (or even "Christian" in
quotation marks) rules?  Or any other religion's rules, for that matter?
