I categorize good governance principles into about 50 modules,
e.g., board size, committee structure, meeting formats, board role
in strategic planning, CEO evaluation, etc., etc. Some consultants/authors
would identify more topics, some less. My principles are consistent
with the Policy Governance Model developed and made popular by
Dr. John Carver.
A good governance principle works with at least 90% of all nonprofit
boards. There are always exceptions to the rule, but not that many.
We will focus on only some of the 50 modules and their related
principles, e.g.
