Good post, David.
The discrepancies between the Gospels on what time Jesus died are
well illustrated - but you forgot an even more obvious
difference. In Matthew, Mark and Luke the last supper is a
passover meal, and Jesus died on the following Day (Matt 26:19,
Mark 14:14,16, Luke 22:8,11,13,15) . In John the last supper was
before the Passover, and his Trial took place on the day of
preparation for the passover (John 18:39, 19:14.)

Unfortunately there are some who seem to think that faith requres
that we do not use our brains.
An intelligent response to the discrepancies in the Bible is to
recognise that the authors were inspired to pass on their faith
and experience of God - and their message is not diminished by
minor errors of timing, place and dialogue.
An unintelligent response to the discrepancies in the Bible is to
pretend that they do not exist.
