I would hope also that suspicion of 'Independence' is rooted in the biblical notion of community... 'Independence' is a somewhat modern/Western notion... >

What about the authority of apostles (vide the council of Jerusalem, and Paul's authority) and prophets?

In two places Jesus gives us a small list of what is important. Are these in your doctrinal statement, or listed with your 'Fundamentals'? (Matthew 23:23, Luke 11:42)

Certainly the NT is strong on orthodoxy, but it's also strong on diversity (which is why, for example, you need both James and Paul)...
