There has been some confusion in the use of the word 'humanism' as though it included an essential atheistic belief. This is wrong! Humanitarianism is being kind and helpful to people, treating people humanly. The humanities are studies or literature, art, music, etc - those things that are the products of human creativity. Humanism is the placing of man at the centre of all things and making him the measure of all things. A Humanist may also be someone who belongs to the Humanist Society and follows the 'Humanist Manifestos I & II' The great Christian scholar and writer, Erasmus , was known as a Christian humanist. His humanism is above all Christian and his vision of Christ was a call to love and peace in an age of intolerance, strife and hatred. He believed in God. The above was pointed out by the fundamentalist Francis Schaeffer.
