Business Praise

Business Praise 7. People - Job Description
Previous article in series

I have a job description.

It sets out the field of responsibility and the limits of my job.

It lists reporting structures, accountabilities,

Required levels of training and experience,

The levels of interaction within and without the company,

And cites examples of the kinds of activity that are expected.

It has all been signed off and agreed by me and the management,

And has been approved by our Human Resources Department.

It's actually quite helpful, and is used to determine my salary.

It can also be used for performance management.

Do you have a job description for me, Lord?

Do you want to set it out formally like that?

"My son, you and I don't need to be formal in the human way.

I want you to be a member of my family,

To love and to serve me with the Father.

That can suffice as your job description.

"I have given you sets of rules and guidelines. [1]

More important, I want to write my words on your heart. [2,3]

From time to time, I will give you specific tasks.

One of these is the set of prayers you are writing now.

But even more important, I have given you my Spirit. [1]

He will guide you day-by-day, hour-by-hour,

And yes, word-by-word.

"Trust me. Hold fast,

And together we will grow my kingdom.

Your job is to be part of this work."
