My friend is on sick leave.

He has had a procedure on his knee

And needs to go quietly during convalescence.

He will get better slowly, but it’s not a new knee.

We’re all getting older.

I visited him in hospital to cheer him up,

And he was glad to see me.

A good-will visit helps the time to pass.

My effort seems futile compared with you, Lord.

No tests, no pills, no operation.

Just a touch, then full health.

No convalescence, no sick leave!

When you visit me, Lord, the healing is in my soul.

And I’m more than just politely glad, [1]

For my soul leaps with joy, lifted, as it were, out of time.

Lord, I thank you today for health.

Help me to share this with my friend.
