I don’t think I would have the right personality to work in Finance!

They seem to have a different set of skills to me.

Attention to detail, scrupulous accuracy,

Sixth sense for hidden costs, or rather hidden budgets!

And yet we need them.

They manage our budgets, cash flow, balance sheets,

Cost codes, debts, credits, interest, tax.

They pay our bills and salaries, calculate profit -

Before and after tax,

And then parcel up the information to keep our masters happy.

Thank you for these people who are always there,

And make it happen – passing audits with integrity.

My credit balance with you, Lord, is terrible.

All the resources seem to go one way.

And I could not survive the first step of an audit,

Yet you keep showering me with resources.

My losses have been ‘written off’

when you paid the price for me.

Each one of us must be a cost centre to you,

I must be a huge one!

Lord, I come to you again in wonder,

In awe, in amazement, [1] worship, [2]

But most of all in love.
