MAY 1st 2007 Hi Borehamophiles Two most interesting items: (1) A Christian friend has passed on to me a very rare *original/ some of it handwritten* 'Sermon kit' Boreham used to store details of his sermons - card-prompts, notes, a newspaper article, cuttings about the churches where he preached this one - 13 separate items in all. The sermon? 'General Gordon.' I've come across only two or three of these, and they always sell for $1,000US+. A brilliant item to add to your collection. The friend wants the proceeds to go to the mission-group 'Urban Neighbours of Hope', which we also support (our daughter Lindy is leading the Melbourne chapter). Is there $1,000US anywhere (or $1,000 AUD for Australians - which may be tax deductible)? Email me if interested. (2) One of Boreham's very rare - and interesting - books has been republished - 'The Man Who Saved Gandhi' has been reissued as a beautiful new book titled 'Lover of Life'. And it's much nicer and cheaper than the rare original. ($9 U.S. would you believe!). See http://victoriaconcordiacrescit.blogspot.com/ (click on the label F W Boreham to locate the article) for a review, and visit http://fwborehamonmentoring.blogspot.com/ to order.Happy collecting/reading! Rowland Croucher ~~~ STOP PRESS (from May 2006) !!! I have disposed of all current stocks of F W Boreham books, booklets, articles and memorabilia. My friend Anthony O'Brien would be delighted to help with anything you need. The press release below also contains more recent publishing information. ~~~ Press Release Subject: New Books By F W Boreham New Boreham Publishing Initiative Michael Dalton (USA) and Geoff Pound (UAE) have teamed up to establish John Broadbanks Publishing. Both enthusiasts of the writings of Boreham their dismay at the general unavailability of these writings due to their being out of print has led to this exciting decision. Despite a resurgence of interest in the life and books of Dr F W Boreham no contemporary publisher has yet been willing to risk republishing the books of a preacher and essayist who has been in his grave for almost 50 years. Prolific Writer F W Boreham lived in England, New Zealand and Australia between 1871 and 1959. He authored 55 books, wrote 3,000 editorials in major papers and was a premiere preacher. Epworth Press, which published and reprinted most of the Boreham books said his book sales went into the millions and that "Boreham was the biggest catch since John Wesley." He was introduced at an international conference of pastors in 1936 as "the man whose name is on all our lips, whose books are on all our shelves and whose illustrations are in all our sermons." First Book This new vision is to republish some of the Boreham books that are not only out of print but are exceedingly scarce in the second hand market. The first reprint will be Boreham’s tribute to his mentor. It was first printed in 1948 with the title: The Man Who saved Gandhi and will be given the new title Lover of Life: F W Boreham’s Tribute to His Mentor. It is hope this book will be available by the end of 2006. Further information has been posted and will be added at the following site F W Boreham On Mentoring. Further Books Planned The plan also involves repackaging some of the Boreham essays and sermons into two new books, The Best Essays of F W Boreham and The Best Stories of F W Boreham. It is hoped these books will emerge in 2007. Further information has been posted and some of the stories will be added to the following site The Best Stories of F W Boreham. Michael and Geoff are grateful to have the permission of Whitley College which has held the copyright to Boreham books since this was passed over by the Boreham family in 1996. A proportion of any profits arising from this new publishing venture will continue to be donated to Whitley College for the training of pastors and missionaries, two ministries that were dear to the heart of F W Boreham. As this is a ‘self-publishing’ activity donations are being sought to assist in the seeding of this venture. If you would like to invest in this exciting project you can donate money by writing your check, payable to ‘Michael Dalton’ and send to: Michael Dalton The selection process of the best essays and stories is happening now. If you would like to put in a recommendation for a favorite essay or a story to be included in the new books do write to Geoff Pound geoffpound[at]yahoo.com.au If you desire more information or if you would like to register your interest in purchasing these books do write to Michael Dalton at dalton.michael[at]sbcglobal.net or Geoff Pound For new visitors Rev. F.W. Boreham wrote about 53 books, many booklets, and over 2000 newspaper and Christian journal articles during his ministries in New Zealand and Australia. He is probably the only collectible religious author Australia has produced. His writings are timeless, and his books increasing in value. The eloquent preacher John Henry Jowett wrote: ""I would advise you to read all the works of F. W. Boreham."" What was it that constituted the chemical compounding of F. W. Boreham's mastery? It was the immensity of his subject combined with the imaginativeness of his style. A professor of homiletics could practically teach Homiletics 101 by using F. W. Boreham's written materials as a paradigm. Boreham was immensely conscious of immensities. In a telling use of language he spoke of Christ's cross as ""the ending of immensities, the center of infinities, the conflux of eternities."" He communicated an infinite God with His unsurpassable love who sent an unxeroxable Savior with an unfathomable salvation. Through a mosaic of subjects Boreham conveyed the Subject of subjects.""---James Townsend... ~~~ February 8th 2006 Just in from Rev. Dr. Geoff Pound: Greetings! I am writing from the United Arab Emirates where my wife and I are making home for the foreseeable future. Lyn has taken up a teaching appointment and I am engaged in some writing projects and doing some supervision, teaching and pastor's conferences in Asia. I have established an F W Boreham Blog Site on which I am posting some Boreham related articles. Feel free to pass on the web address to others who may be interested, not just Borehamaniacs but those interested in the art of communication...writers, speakers, preachers etc. Especially, I wanted to encourage your thoughts, ideas, questions and feedback.
